Shawn A. Voyles

Mr. Voyles' practice includes a broad range of civil litigation matters in federal and state courts, including maritime, railroad, toxic tort, eminent domain, premises liability, wrongful death, and employment law. He also teaches Admiralty Law at Regent University School of Law. Virginia Super Lawyers has recognized Mr. Voyles as a “Rising Star.” Inside Business named Mr. Voyles one of Hampton Roads' “Top 40 Under 40.”

  • Adjunct Professor of Law, Regent University School of Law
  • Obtained complete exoneration from liability for client in federal admiralty action filed after former deckhand sought damages in state court under the Jones Act.
  • Successfully moved to strike plaintiff's evidence in FELA jury trial in Portsmouth Circuit Court where plaintiff claimed that he had contracted silicosis during his employment with local railroad.
  • Received defense verdict for local railroad in federal jury trial in which plaintiff alleged employment discrimination and retaliation.
  • Received defense verdict for national dredging company in state jury trial in which plaintiff alleged negligent operation of company vehicle.
  • Successful acquisition of properties for local redevelopment and housing authorities through eminent domain trials.
  • Assisted local redevelopment and housing authority in drafting amended redevelopment plan.
